چکیده

The central kiloparsec of M81 has been observed in the CO(J=1–0) line and the 3 mm continuum at 100 pc resolution in an attempt to probe molecular gas, and to search for the nuclear inner Lindblad resonance (NILR), around the low-luminosity AGN M81. We found the following. (1) Molecular gas in the central kpc is mainly on a “pseudoring” or a spiral arm at a radius of about 500 pc. (2) The region within ∼300 pc from the nucleus is mostly devoid of molecular gas except for diffuse one; in particular, there is neither a giant molecular cloud that is now accreting on the nucleus nor a conspicuous gas feature that can be identified as an NILR. (3) The 3 mm continuum emission shows significant intraday variation, suggesting an emitting region of ∼ 100 AU. (4) The 3σ upper limit for CO absorption toward the continuum source is ∫ τCO(0→1) dV < 0.1 for a linewidth of 10 km s−1. The dearth of accreting molecular gas in the vicinity of the nucleus may explain the low luminosity of M81. Subject headings: galaxies: active — galaxies: individual (M81, NGC3031) — galaxies: ISM — galaxies: kinematics and dynamics — galaxies: spiral

Intraday Radio Variability in Active Galactic Nuclei

Rapid flux density variations on timescales of the order of a day or less (Intraday Variability, IDV) in the radio regime are a common phenomenon within the blazar class. Observations with the 100m telescope of the MPIfR showed that the variations occur not only in total intensity, but also in the polarized intensity and in polarization angle. Here we present an overview of our IDV-observations...

LUMINOSITY FUNCTIONS AND POINT-SOURCE PROPERTIES FROM MULTIPLE CHANDRA OBSERVATIONS OF M81 Citation

We present an analysis of 15 Chandra observations of the nearby spiral galaxy M81 taken over the course of six weeks in 2005 May–July. Each observation reaches a sensitivity of ∼1037 erg s−1. With these observations and one previous deeper Chandra observation, we compile a master source list of 265 point sources, extract and fit their spectra, and differentiate basic populations of sources thro...

(e) Structure Function

Long-term X-ray variability of the low-luminosity active galactic nucleus of M81 was studied, using 16 ASCA observations spanning 5.5 years. The object exhibits a factor three variation over the 5.5 years. The source intensity was relatively constant within each observation which lasted typically for one day, but intra-day variability by 30% was detected on the 15th observation. The power-spect...

The jet of the Low Luminosity AGN of M81

In this contribution, we summarize our main results of a big campaign of global VLBI observations of the AGN in M81 (M81*) phase-referenced to the radio supernova SN 1993J. Thanks to the precise multi-epoch and multi-frequency astrometry, we have determined the normalized core-shift of the relativistic jet of M81* and estimated both the magnetic field and the particle density at the jet base. W...

Knocking Down the DRD2 by shRNA Expressing Plasmids in the Nucleus Accumbens Prevented the Disrupting Effect of Apomorphine on Prepulse Inhibition in Rat

Prepulse Inhibition (PPI), the objective measure of sensorimotor gating disturbance has being widely used in animal models of schizophrenia. Dopaminergic direct and indirect agonists impair PPI. However, the profile of dopaminergic receptors involved in PPI impairment by dopamine agonists is not clear. By injecting shRNA expressing plasmids against dopamine D2 receptor genes (DRD2) in the nucle...
